installing carpet pad::Carpet padding comes in a variety of materials, including felt, foam rubber, sponge rubber, and urethane.
However, the basic installation technique is the same no matter the material.
To install the carpet padding, you will need a staple gun and a sharp utility knife.
Before installing the padding itself, you will need to secure standard tackless strip all around the perimeter of the rooms you are padding.
The tackless strip secures the carpeting in place against the walls, and also serves as a border within which the padding will be installed.
Tackless strip should be placed so that there is a onehalf inch gap between the strip and the wall.
Procedure first, clean the subfloor thoroughly.
Remove all old carpet staples, clean any dirt and grime, and make sure there is no moisture on the subfloor.
Unroll your carpet padding and cut it into lengths long enough to run from the wall on one end of the room to the opposite wall.
Now, lay out the first length of padding so that its corners are fitted snugly in the corners of the room.
The padding should overlie the tack strips wherever it abuts the walls.
Staple the length of padding to the subfloor at sixinch intervals.
If the subfloor is concrete, you will have to use an appropriate adhesive instead of staples.
Now, secure the other lengths of padding to the floor.
The lengths should not overlap each other, but rather should lie edge to edge, forming neat seams.
When each length of padding has been secured, use your utility knife to cut away the edges of the padding wherever it overlies the tack strips.
The cut edges should lie flat against the floor with no gap between the padding and the tack strips.
Finally, cover the seams between the lengths of padding with duct tape.
The padding should cover every inch of subfloor inside the tack strip border.
